Advent Study and Supper

A small group is forming for a four week Advent  Study and Supper. Our Lay Leader will be cooking a simple dinner for attendees. (Think soup and sandwich) You do not have to attend the study to get the free meal.

The four lessons will be from "The Living Nativity" book "Preparing for Christmas with Saint Francis"

Study and Supper series will be on Monday night in place of Bible Study on Nov 26, Dec 3, 10 and 17

Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign

We  will be ringing the hand bells for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign at our local Walmart on Wednesdays from 11am to 7pm. You can sign up to ring as a team or family.

Money raised will stay in our area(Medina Co)  to support such thing as the Angel Tree program, and emergency disaster support.

The church is again hosting a cookie decorating booth at the Castroville Old Fashioned Christmas on Houston Square here in Castroville.

Our hours are Nov 30 6-8pm and Sat Dec 1 10am to 4pm

Plain sugar cookies needed!.

We will start collecting food items for our second round of Community Food Baskets in early December. There is a standard list that we ask you to shop from so all the baskets are the same.  You can buy one item or adopt a whole basket. The sign up sheets will be in the church lobby once we are ready to announce the start of the Christmas basket season.  The families that receive the baskets are preselected by the Federal Programs office at the Medina Valley ISD.  (These baskets will have a ham.)

(The fee for a basket adoption runs about $60-70.00 and varies yearly.)

Adopt-A-Highway Litter Pick

For over three years we have been picking up trash on FM 1957, also known as Potranco Road. Church Volunteers gather for a safety briefing at 8am in the church parking lot before heading out to our site near the school. New pickers always welcome to join us, but they must be over 7 years of age.  Community service hours are available for ROTC and National Honor Society students.

We will be hosting a COAT DRIVE during January. Included in this drive are hats, gloves, mittens and scarves. New coats are most welcome as are clean gently used coats.  We need coats for kids, teens and adults.  Clean extra blanks most welcome also.

Administrative Council

Administrative Council meetings are open to all and you can vote.

This group of church leaders receives reports from individuals and groups about church business such as Finance, Trustees and Social Media.

At this Nov meeting we will be submitting the 2019 Budget for approval, approving the nominations committee list of church leadership. Receiving other reports prior to our annual conference on Dec 2 in Hondo. 

When necessary the Ad Council approves funding and programs.

PUMPKIN PATCH

 The annual pumpkin patch is a community event. We welcome Scouts, NHS, ROTC folks to join us as we set up the patch for our pumpkin sale. Community service hours can be earned by Volunteering to work a shift in the patch. The patch is open 24 hours a day for photos but sales only happen after school and on weekends.  The Pumpkin Patch Shift sign up sheet is managed by our Lay Leader Janet Cook you can reach her via the church office.

National Night Out

In Support of the National Night Out sponsored by the La Coste  police department. The church will have a booth. Our booth manager for La Coste is Shirley Hodges, she does games and hands out candy. Contact the booth manager in late September if you would like to help with this FUN Out Reach.  KIDS WELCOME!

La Coste event is Tuesday Oct 2, 6-8pm in the park near the tracks.

The NEW Castroville event is in the church parking lot, 6-8pm events planned by Councilmen Eric Cherry, not the church. MVUMC but we will have a booth doing face painting.

Fajita Dinner Fundraiser

Our annual fundraiser for the church. The fires are started before dawn to get the beef and chicken cooked, rice and beans come with the meal. The 30th Annual Fajita Dinner celebration at Medina Valley United Methodist Church will be after worship services on Sunday. The day before many willing hands will gathered to chop tomatoes and onions, roll tortillas, dice peppers and package cheese to go with the meals.  The bake sale table will be set up in the morning for sale of pies, cakes, brownies, and the ever popular chocolate chips cookies.

FAJITA DINNER PREP DAY

Put on your apron, grab the big knifes  and join us in fellowship as we prepare the Pico and clean the grills for our annual fundraiser. Please bring your cutting board!

We will need help chopping tomatoes and green peppers. Packaging the cheese and the Pico and wrapping the tortillas. 

Bring a dessert so it can be priced for the dessert sale table.

Normal start time around 8, join us in the fun as we gather in Christ's name for this different type of fellowship even if you can only come for an hour.

Steel Magnolias Concert

The Steel Magnolias to present concert in Castroville

The Medina Valley United Methodist Church, Castroville, TX is excited to announce the widely known Christian singing troupe, The Steel Magnolias, who will be presenting a fully choreographed concert of Southern gospel Music at the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday morning, September 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.  There is no charge and the public is invited.

The Steel Magnolias have sung throughout America and Canada covering 42 states for the past twelve years. 

The ladies returned from a 16-day tour last October 2017, to the Pacific Northwest, traveling through 12 US states, plus Victoria, British Columbia.  They covered over 5800 miles presenting 39 Gospel Music concerts as part of what they do every year in churches, community centers, VA hospitals, prisons, plus “flash mobs” throughout the tour. 

The Sunday evening before they left on that tour, the group was invited to sing at the Sutherland Springs Baptist Church, and then one week after their return home they heard the tragic news of the shooting at this wonderful church.  It was then The Steel Magnolias declared their theme for 2018: Sharing Jesus with URGENCY!

This past May 2018, the group traveled for 10 days through Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Arkansas.  God blessed as they passionately shared their message of URGENCY. The ladies will be on tour again to the New England states this fall, Nov. 9-19, 2018.   

The Steel Magnolias present as many as one hundred fifty volunteer concerts a year.  Through their music, scriptures, and personal testimonies, they present the message of Christ’s love and salvation.  Your life will never be the same after experiencing the dynamic witness and singing of The Steel Magnolias. 

Everett McCarley, pastor of Medina Valley UMC invites the public to come hear The Steel Magnolias present this special concert in the morning worship service beginning at 10:30 a.m. The church is located at 1108 Country Lane, Castroville, TX 78009.

A covered dish POT LUCK will follow the concert in the Fellowship hall

This special Sunday we honor and bless all those who  work in or attend school. New 3rd graders will receive a Bible embossed with there name. During worship we will bless backpacks, totes and briefcasea whatever you carry your school work in..teacher or student.

Our 4th annual Back to School Fair is still a work in progress at this time.  This fair is for incoming 6th graders who the District Office has identified and will be receiving limited amount of gym gear and school supplies. Vacation Bible School

Our FREE Vacation Bible School Program includes a bible story, singing, crafts, games and a light snack every evening. Our VBS is lead by trained and certified church Volunteers. Our VBS program is for children entering Kindergarten this fall to those who just finished the 5th grade. .

Celebration Sunday Pot Luck

Join us as we Celebrate our 2018 Grads.  The church will provide a cake, while breaking with the "we plan out everything" Methodist tradition... the POT LUCK is truly pot luck.  Some times it is all meat, sometimes all salads, so surprise us with a dish or two you will bring to the pot luck scheduled for after worship on Sunday . Stay for a while and get to know the folks who share the pew with you.

4th Annual Pet Fair

Our Castroville Community 4th Annual Pet Fair will be a free fun event for all the fur babies. Large or small they all must be on a leash, unless they are in a pen or carrier.  The day includes crafts, a  photo booth, snacks, dog demonstrations. For the horse and pony lovers, we will have a blacksmith on the grounds and offer pony rides for $5.   Vendors are welcome to apply for a free 20x20 booth space on the lawn. There is a fee for inside the hall vendor spaces. ($10 for a 10x10) these inside spaces are free to our church family members and not for and non- profit groups. A hound group will be doing a demo at 11am.  The first pet Blessing is scheduled for 9:30am. The PET Costume contest is set for noon, with a prize in the 3 different Pet sizes, small pet, medium  pet and large pet.

EASTER EGG HUNT

FREE Annual Easter Egg Hunt, join us as we host this community event for children 0-12.

We provide three different egg hunting areas by age: 0-4, 5-7, 8-12

If you have a special needs child let the church office know and we can work something out. (830)931-3533

For the youngest we do more treats than candy so be sure and check what is in the egg they picked up.

Light refreshments will be served in the church hall after the egg hunt.

OUTREACH/Missions

Outreach and Missions Team will be meeting to discuss plans for the year, along with detail planning of the district clothing drive (Feb-Mar) and the Annual Easter Egg Hunt (Mar 31).  We will also be discussing the Pet Fair on May 12th. (We meet after Bible Study in the same room as half of the Outreach Team is in the Bible Study Class.)

We are currently in need of stuffed animals for our Prayers in the Pews program, these fuzzy Prayer Warriors are for those who need a smile and a prayer for what ever reason. Some go to homes with worshipers while some are sent overseas.

Clothing Drive

Annual District Disaster Clothing Drive working with other churches we gather gently used clothing that is in turn shipped to a processing plant to be cleaned and sized. The clothes are then stored until the next disaster.  Your donations may be in a bag or box. We will even take them still on the hanger.  No need to send anything to the drycleaners first.

Please drop off your donations in the fellowship hall after Feb 11, there will be one area set aside for donations.

Adopt A Highway Litter Pick Up

As part of our Out Reach to the community we adopted a section of highway near the Potranco Elementary School on FM 1957. Once a quarter we pick up trash on a two mile section of the road. No one walks the whole two miles as we send out teams of two and three along various sections of the road. Normally we are done with the pick in a hour and a half.  First time pickers should meet in the church parking lot at 8am for a safety briefing.
